Hardy Native Herbaceous Perennial, usually of grassland and open woodland; with whorls of bright red - purple flowers on tall, bristly stems above bold, toothed, spear shaped foliage in June to October.

Very attractive to Bees; it is also a food plant of the Small Magpie moth caterpillar.
