Information

Hardy Native Perennial Shrub, usually of rough grassland, shingle and other open, well drained places; with large fragrant pale pink flowers in June to July, followed by bright red hips; above aromatic foliage on stout, very spiny stems.

Height x Spread:

120 in (300 cm) x 60 in (150 cm)

Wildlife Value:

Very attractive to Butterflies, Bees and Flies, and a food plant of the Muslin Moth caterpillar; and the hips provide winter food for many species of bird.

Other Interest:

The hips contain large amounts if vitamins (C in particular), and were used to soothe cold and flu symptoms.
