Hardy Native Bulbous Perennial, usually of deciduous woodland; with drooping, one sided spikes of deep blue bell shaped flowers in April and May, above dense, grass like foliage. Rapidly forms dense patches through reseeding. It is believed to be in danger of being overrun by the similar but more robust Spanish Bluebell, and also of being contaminated by hybridisation.

Other Interest:
The bulbs were once used as a source of starch, and also a glue for bookbinding. It is now illegal to lift bulbs.
